7 signs your website is costing you clients

Your website should work like a salesperson who never sleeps. These seven warning signs show when it's quietly sending potential clients away, and how to fix each one.

Your website should be your best salesperson: available 24 hours a day, explaining what you do and bringing you new clients. But many business websites do the opposite. They quietly send people away, and the owner never finds out.

Here are seven signs to check on your own site today.

1. It is slow on a phone

Open your website on your phone using mobile data, not Wi-Fi. If you wait and wait, so do your visitors, and many of them leave before the page even appears. Large images and heavy themes are the usual cause.

2. Visitors can't tell what you do in five seconds

Look at the first screen only. Is it clear what you offer, who it is for, and why you are different? A vague headline like “Welcome to our website” wastes your most valuable space.

3. There is no clear next step

Every page should tell people what to do next: call, send a WhatsApp message, book a meeting or request a quote. If the button is hidden, or there are ten different options, people do nothing.

4. It looks broken on mobile

Text too small to read, buttons too close together, images cut off. Most of your visitors probably come from phones. If the mobile version feels like an afterthought, your business does too.

5. There is no proof

People want to see that you have done this before. Show real work, real results and real reviews. A website with only promises and no proof makes clients hesitate.

6. The content is outdated

Old prices, a 2019 copyright line, services you no longer offer, or a “latest news” section from three years ago. Visitors start to wonder if the business is still active.

7. You can't measure it

If you don't know how many people visit, which pages they read and where they leave, you are guessing. A free tool like Google Analytics shows you exactly what is working and what is not.

A 10-minute self-check

  1. Open your homepage on your phone with mobile data.
  2. Show the first screen to a friend for five seconds. Ask them what you do.
  3. Try to contact yourself through the site. Count the steps.
  4. Read every page as if you were a new client. Mark anything old or unclear.
  5. Check whether you can see last month's visitor numbers.

If your website failed two or more of these checks, it is probably costing you clients right now. I can review it and tell you what to fix first, or build a new one that actually works for your business.
